Even after death we can
contribute to welfare of society. Dr J M Kaul, Dir. Professor & Head, Dept
of Anatomy, Maulana Azad Medical College sheds light on various aspects of
Whole Body Donation in an e-mail interview with apli apulki
- What is the need for bodies of dead in academics of medical science.
To be able to understand the disease process one has to
understand the normal topography and function of the body. Altered structures
lead to altered functioning, therefore disease. So, it is important for the
medical students, postgraduates and surgeons to keep learning the morphology of
the body. The surgeons also need to learn new techniques on the cadaver.
- How are the needs of such bodies met presently.
Presently the bodies are received for two sources:
- Unclaimed bodies for the hospital
- b) Voluntary donors

Life Science.
The
health parameters are known and correlation of structure can be better
predicted, while in case of unclaimed bodies as the health record is not known.
This pose a problems sometimes.
4 When funeral is carried out, people are convinced that
mortal remains have been disposed. What happens to mortal remains when donated
to medical college.

the mortal remains are given a respectful journey to the
incernator of the hospital.
